FanYard is a social tool - a community - for football fans who want to make and track their predictions on American football and basketball games. With the advent of the Yardstick, a new tool for measuring the collective voice of football fans has come into existence. By taking measure of the real opinions of fans and allowing members to make score predictions, even weeks into the future, FanYard will provide sports fans and media with a powerfully relevant source for pre-game discussions and debates.
The Yardstick is FanYard's measurement of the community opinion on which team is the favorite to win, and by how many points. The Yardstick is set by having fans chose the winner of a game, and by how much at least, they believe that team will win the game by. The data from all fans predicting a particular game is aggregated, then shown as how many points the public feels the favored team will win by, as an easily understood, overall measurement of all fans' predictions on the game itself – the Yardstick. The Yardstick allows the fans and media alike to have an accurate, non-betting related view into public perception about each game.
Yes. Signing up and adding your picks to the Yardstick is free and easy to do, and you are helping to provide fans and media with a valuable tool for understanding the public’s perception of the games being played.
You need to register for a FanYard account in order to make and track predictions. As well, you need to be logged in to make comments or set up your Yard page. By setting Yardsticks on games, you are making your voice heard, as measured solely against the voices and opinions of other football fans. This site is community-based and driven, and we will listen to our guests as time goes on to make this site everything they could ever want in a football-focused social network. We believe in fellow football fans and we believe that, together, we can make FanYard and the Yardstick into the most relevant and powerful tools available for both fans and the media alike.
We use the information you provide ONLY to create stats based on fan opinions, eventually to be sorted by age, geography, team preferences and sex, and to allow for better targeted advertising within the site (which is how we can provide what we provide for free). Period. Nothing is ever individually used or given, sold or loaned to other interested parties.
You can pick any amount of games that are available, and you can pick into the future as well, if you like. In fact, we encourage that!
To receive points for your prediction, you must pick the winning team, and be within ten points of the winning margin that team wins by. If you score a direct hit, you will receive 100 points. For every game point your pick is higher or lower than the winning margin, you receive 10 less points down to a minimum of zero points; there are no points given for choosing the team that loses.
For example, if you choose the home team to win by eight, and they win by eight, you receive 100 points. If you chose the home team to win by seven or nine, you would receive 90 points. If you chose the home team to win by six or ten, you would receive 80 points. You would receive points for picking the home team, in this example, if you chose them to win by between one and 17 points. Picking the home team to win by 17 would get you 10 points, and picking them to win by one point would get you 30 points.
The most points you can receive for any pick is 100, and the fewest is zero. There are no negative points awarded.
